Borderland | The Line Within
The United States border is not just a geographic location.
The border is everywhere.

On Tuesday, April 21 at 6:00 p.m., Gallery Bergen invites you to a special showing of the award-winning documentary, Borderland: The Line Within (2024). The film will be presented by its producer Paco de Onis and director Pamela Yates. A panel with the filmmakers and Katy Sastre, Executive Director of First Friends NJ and NY, a volunteer-powered organization fighting for the rights of detained immigrants and their families on a one-on-one basis.

Borderland is a documentary exposing the “border industrial complex” — a system where immigration enforcement, incarceration, and surveillance are transformed into profit. The United States border is not just geographic– it is everywhere. And a massive surveillance, militarized and carceral apparatus has been built to capture, imprison and deport millions. It lies within every undocumented immigrant family with the threat that at any moment they can be captured, incarcerated, deported; their lives destroyed. Borderland l The Line Within exposes the profitable business of immigration and its human cost– and weaves together the stories of immigrant heroines and heroes resisting and showing a way forward, building a movement that recognizes the human rights of all.
Food will be provided by BCC’s Culinary Arts Program.
There is a (gently) suggested donation for those who can afford it, to benefit Grupo Cajola and First Friends NJ/NY.
